"My
photography career began in 1993 after a trip to the Southwest. As an
amateur photographer, the photographs that I took in Arizona and New Mexico
sparked the creative fire which now burns brightly. Upon seeing on
film the beauty I had documented during that first trip, I decided to hang
up my coat and tie after 15 years in the car business an move from
Washington, D.C. to Taos, New Mexico.
Determined to pursue and develop this new-found passion for creating
pictures, I traveled many roads in Northern New Mexico in search of
"the quiet moment" -- that moment when the scene in my viewfinder
becomes my world. All stands still, all becomes quiet except when the
image itself speaks to me, saying "Now".
During the course of the next five years there were many of those quiet
moments in which I created images in Africa, Mexico, Tahiti, on the
California coast, and in my home state of New Mexico. In this earlier
part of my career, I was initially drawn and inspired by the beauty of my
surroundings.
During the most recent five years my focus has shifted to the intricacies
and beauty of the precious human beings I have encountered. I have
been moved by the smile on an elder's face or the character in his or her
hands. I have been able to bear witness to the sublime moments of
ecstatic dance as well as the contentment in a moment of prayer.
The question that is often asked of me is, 'What do you like to
shoot?' Usually that is whatever is in front of me. Whenever
possible, I shoot what inspires me. The common theme in my work is the
presence of Spirit, be it in a place, a person, or an event. Most
importantly, I am drawn to the beauty that surrounds me. Part of the
blessing of being a photographer is that I'm always focused on that
beauty."
